The legal proceedings involving former Special Crimes Prosecutor (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah have become a crucial measure of Indonesia’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, according to political analyst Firdaus Syam from the National University (Unas).
Firdaus said the outcome of the case will largely depend on whether law enforcement authorities demonstrate sufficient political will to investigate every aspect of the alleged offense without making exceptions for any individual. He argued that the case should be handled comprehensively because it may involve broader issues beyond a single suspect.
According to Firdaus, transparent and accountable legal proceedings are essential to maintaining public confidence in Indonesia’s justice system. He stressed that any investigation must follow established legal procedures while remaining open to public scrutiny to reinforce trust in state institutions.
He added that if the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) were to take over the investigation, the agency would have an important opportunity to demonstrate its independence and commitment to tackling cases that attract significant public attention.
Firdaus warned that failure to resolve the case professionally could weaken public confidence in law enforcement. For that reason, he called for strict oversight throughout the legal process and emphasized that all investigative steps should be conducted in accordance with the law.
The analyst also noted growing public speculation over whether other influential figures may have links to the alleged money laundering case involving the former prosecutor. In his view, the allegations should not be dismissed, as the case could involve broader questions related to abuse of authority and governance.
He said public concern about the possible involvement of additional parties is understandable and should be addressed through an impartial investigation rather than speculation. Only a professional, independent, and integrity-driven inquiry, he added, can determine whether other individuals bear legal responsibility.
Firdaus emphasized that no individual should receive special protection during the investigation or any subsequent legal proceedings.
On Friday, Febrie Adriansyah underwent questioning as a suspect by the Attorney General’s Office’s Team 9 in connection with the alleged money laundering case. Investigators questioned him to further examine the case, including evidence and documents collected during the investigation.
