A joint patrol by the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) along with the West Jakarta Metropolitan Resort Police (Polres Metro Jakarta Barat) thwarted a suspected brawl that was set to occur in the Cengkareng area, West Jakarta, early Saturday morning (4/7/2026). During the operation, officers secured four teenagers allegedly involved and confiscated several pieces of evidence, including one sickle (celurit).
The discovery began when the Brimob Patrol Team of Company 3, Pioneer Battalion A, Satbrimob Polda Metro Jaya, alongside the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Precision Pioneer Team, conducted a sweep across several points deemed vulnerable to public order and security disturbances (kamtibmas). While passing through the Cengkareng area, officers encountered a group of teenagers suspected of preparing to engage in a brawl.
Upon noticing the arrival of the authorities, the teenagers attempted to flee. However, officers successfully secured four individuals for further investigation. From the scene, police also confiscated a sharp weapon of the sickle type, a firecracker, and a mobile phone suspected of being linked to the planned action.
The Commander of the Polda Metro Jaya Brimob Unit, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto, stated that joint patrols from night to early morning will continue to be reinforced as a preventive measure against various forms of street crime, ranging from brawls and illegal racing to other criminal acts. According to him, the presence of personnel on the ground has proven effective in narrowing the operational space for offenders while increasing the sense of security for the public.
Henik added that routine patrols are part of the police’s preventive strategy to anticipate the rising potential of public security and order disturbances at night. In addition to taking action, the authorities continue to comb through several locations that have frequently served as gathering spots for teenage groups or areas prone to criminal activity.
The police also urged parents to be more active in supervising their children’s activities, especially during the night and early morning hours, to prevent involvement in brawls or other criminal acts. On the other hand, the public is requested to immediately report any potential security threats through the National Police emergency hotline 110 so that field officers can follow up promptly. This step is expected to lower the rate of teenage brawls while creating a more conducive security situation in the West Jakarta region.
