The Pokémon Company (TPC) continues to strengthen its engagement with fans in Indonesia through various entertainment- and culture-based programs. Initiatives such as Poké Wayang and the Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey event are being prepared to expand and sustain the growth of the Pokémon community in the country.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Pokémon Company Takato Utsunomiya said the company hopes the number of Pokémon fans in Indonesia will continue to grow. According to him, Indonesia has significant potential based on the strong public interest in various Pokémon content.
One indicator can be seen in the performance of Pokémon Kids TV on YouTube. Utsunomiya revealed that Indonesia ranks first globally in terms of viewers for the channel, even surpassing India.
“The number of views or plays on Pokémon Kids TV in Indonesia ranks first in the world, ahead of India,” Utsunomiya said during a conversation with ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday.
TPC’s attention to the Indonesian market is also reflected in the presence of Indonesian employees within the company. Currently, at least 10 Indonesian employees work at TPC. They are not only responsible for matters related to the Indonesian market but are also involved in the development of games and various Pokémon content globally.
As Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary, TPC is also incorporating Indonesia’s cultural heritage through the Poké Wayang project. The collaboration combines Pokémon characters with the traditional art of wayang while conveying moral messages to children about the importance of teamwork and supporting one another.
The performance also features music from Pokémon games arranged using gamelan, creating a unique blend of cultures. The first Poké Wayang performance is scheduled to take place at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) on October 22, 2026.
TPC also plans to bring the performance to several elementary schools across Indonesia. Other programs include Indonesian-language support for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, Pokémon RUN 30, and Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey, which will take place alongside the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 Experience Jakarta.
