The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTT) has deployed 125 personnel to Flores Island to strengthen efforts to respond to the impact of an earthquake that struck the region. The team departed from Kupang City aboard the Ile Labalekan as part of the police’s humanitarian response to conditions in the affected areas.
Acting Head of Public Relations at Polda NTT, Senior Commissioner of Police Sajimin, said all personnel had undergone inspections before departure and were confirmed ready. They will carry out duties according to their respective functions while stationed in Flores.
Of the personnel deployed, 30 members come from the Mobile Brigade (Brimob), 23 from the Samapta unit, 18 from the Water and Air Police (Polair), and 10 from the Medical and Health Division (Dokkes). Polda NTT also deployed 10 Intelligence and Security (Intelkam) personnel, nine Community Guidance (Binmas) officers, 10 Criminal Investigation (Reskrim) personnel, 10 Logistics personnel, and five Public Relations officers.
According to Sajimin, the composition was designed to ensure that police support for disaster response could be carried out in an integrated manner. Each unit will perform its respective role based on conditions and requirements in the field.
Brimob and Samapta personnel will assist with security and the evacuation of residents. Meanwhile, Polair personnel have been prepared to support transportation and mobilization by sea, particularly given the geographical conditions of the NTT archipelago.
Medical support will be provided by Dokkes personnel to residents requiring treatment. Meanwhile, Intelkam, Binmas, Reskrim, Logistics, and Public Relations personnel will provide supporting services according to their respective areas of responsibility.
Sajimin said the presence of police personnel in disaster-affected areas is not limited to maintaining security. They will also assist with evacuation operations, healthcare services, aid distribution, and other community needs during the post-earthquake response period.
The deployment is part of Polda NTT’s efforts to accelerate assistance for communities in Flores affected by the disaster. The police said all deployed personnel had been prepared to carry out coordinated humanitarian duties in areas requiring immediate support.
