Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) introduced the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, expanding its flagship SUV lineup with hybrid technology while preserving the model’s legendary off-road capability.
The company showcased two variants during the exhibition: the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV VX-R and the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV GR Sport.
According to Resha Kusuma Atmaja, Marketing Planning General Manager of Toyota-Astra Motor, the Land Cruiser has continued to evolve over its 75-year history by responding to customer needs without abandoning its core values of quality, durability, and reliability.
“For 75 years, the Land Cruiser has continued to evolve while maintaining the character and spirit that have defined it from the beginning,” Resha said.
The new hybrid model combines a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 457 horsepower and 790 Nm of torque.
Toyota equips the SUV with a Parallel Hybrid System (PHS), positioning the electric motor between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. The system automatically optimizes power delivery through five operating modes: EV Driving, Engine Only, EV Regeneration, Electric Motor + Engine, and Engine Drive + Battery Charge.
To improve driving performance, the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid features Electric Power Steering (EPS) for enhanced steering precision. The vehicle also includes an additional alternator, enabling continued operation even if the hybrid system experiences a malfunction.
Toyota designed the battery placement to preserve the SUV’s renowned off-road capabilities. The battery is positioned around the spare tire area and protected by a waterproof casing, allowing the vehicle to safely drive through water up to 700 millimeters deep without compromising cabin safety.
Visually, the hybrid version retains the rugged appearance of the diesel-powered Land Cruiser, with only subtle exterior changes. The GR Sport variant receives exclusive sporty styling elements, while the VX-R features revised front and lower rear bumpers.
The SUV also comes equipped with Auto Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), which automatically analyzes road conditions and adjusts traction through six driving modes, including Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow, and Rock, helping optimize performance across challenging terrain.
The introduction of the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid highlights Toyota’s strategy of combining electrification with the brand’s long-standing reputation for durability and off-road performance.
