Hanura Proposes Allowing DKPP to Refer Suspected Election Crimes - RakyatPost.co

Hanura Party Deputy Chairman Patrice Rio Capella has proposed expanding the authority of the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) to allow the institution to refer findings of alleged criminal offenses involving election officials to law enforcement authorities.

The proposal was made during a consolidation meeting of the Hanura Party’s Central Executive Board (DPP) Task Force Team in Lampung. Rio said strengthening the DKPP’s role should be included in discussions on the Election Law currently being prepared. Recent statements by Rio have also emphasized strengthening oversight of election organizers and completing revisions to the Election Law ahead of the 2029 election.

Rio explained that the DKPP has traditionally focused on ethical violations by election officials and has the authority to impose sanctions, including dismissal, on those found to have committed violations. However, he said the mechanism should be expanded if an examination uncovers indications of criminal activity, including alleged gratification.

According to Rio, oversight of election officials is an important part of ensuring that the democratic process operates in accordance with regulations. He said discussions on election regulations should therefore not focus solely on the parliamentary threshold and the electoral system, but should also address strengthening the institutions of the General Elections Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and the DKPP.

The proposal comes as several aspects of election administration have again attracted public attention. Rio said potential errors by election officials need to be anticipated through a stronger oversight system. He has also recently called for stronger supervision of election organizers, citing the possibility of human error in election administration.

Meanwhile, during the consolidation meeting in Lampung, Hanura also discussed preparations for the 2029 election. Rio said the party is targeting two seats in the House of Representatives (DPR RI) from two electoral districts in the province.

According to Rio, the target will be supported by strengthening Hanura’s organizational structure down to the subdistrict level. Strengthening the party structure is considered necessary to improve its readiness for the upcoming electoral contest, including avoiding candidate-nomination issues that occurred in several areas of Lampung during the 2024 election.

Hanura has been conducting organizational consolidation across Indonesia as part of its preparations for the 2029 election. The party has said it aims to complete its organizational consolidation in 2026 and map electoral districts and potential legislative candidates ahead of the next election.
