The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) emphasized the importance of readiness across the entire business supply chain ahead of the implementation of the Mandatory Halal requirement in October 2026. Preparations cover the upstream sector, processing industries, certification and supervision processes, as well as micro and small enterprises (MSMEs).
BPJPH Deputy for Halal Product Assurance Guidance and Supervision EA Chuzaemi Abidin said supervision needs to be prepared to ensure that the Mandatory Halal requirement is implemented in accordance with applicable regulations. In addition to supervision, the government also needs to provide guidance so businesses can comply with the prevailing requirements.
“Halal Product Assurance supervision is being prepared to ensure that the implementation of the Mandatory Halal requirement runs according to regulations, while also providing guidance to businesses,” Chuzaemi said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, readiness in the upstream sector is one of the aspects that needs attention. This includes slaughterhouses and poultry slaughterhouses (RPH/RPU), processing industries, and MSMEs that are part of the product production and distribution chain.
BPJPH also considers the alignment of data among ministries and institutions to be important. Integrated data is needed to identify regions that require accelerated certification while determining the appropriate forms of support for businesses.
The measures were discussed through cross-ministerial and inter-agency coordination. BPJPH previously held a coordination meeting with the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (PMK), the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Trade, and the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS).
The coordination is part of the government’s consolidation efforts to ensure that all relevant stakeholders have aligned measures in preparing for the implementation of the Mandatory Halal requirement.
BPJPH Secretary General Muhammad Aqil Irham said the implementation of the Mandatory Halal requirement in October 2026 is one of the government’s priority agendas. Therefore, its implementation needs to be overseen through synergy and collaboration among ministries and institutions.
“Synergy and collaboration across ministries and institutions are key to ensuring that the Mandatory Halal policy is implemented effectively,” Aqil said.
According to him, coordination is also needed to anticipate various potential obstacles. Policy alignment and mitigation measures are expected to help maintain business activities and growth at optimal levels during the implementation of the halal requirement.
Aqil said inter-agency synergy could provide certainty for businesses while strengthening consumer protection. Coordinated policy implementation is also expected to support sustainable business growth.
Meanwhile, BPJPH Deputy for Halal Registration and Certification Mamat S Burhanudin said strengthening certification is an important part of preparing businesses for the October 2026 Mandatory Halal requirement.
These efforts are being carried out by optimizing various certification schemes, including facilitating businesses through collaboration with ministries, institutions, and regional governments. Strengthening the ecosystem and utilizing data are also part of the strategy to accelerate halal certification readiness.
